Myanmar court upholds dissolution of Suu Kyi’s NLD party
by Charles Cherry
This decision was to be expected – the ruling regime does not want to compete with the NLD on an equal footing. The last time that happened, the people voted overwhelmingly for Suu Kyi‘s party, the National League for Democracy.
I wonder what the people of Myanmar are thinking right now, in light of the massive protests going on in Tunisia, Egypt, and other Middle East countries. The last couple of times the Myanmars tried this, they were gunned down in the streets, and nothing became of their protests.
I wonder if this will give them courage to try again, or if they have resolved to let sleeping dogs lie?
